Malaysian chef says Filipino food worst in Asia

After Philippines ranked as second best destination for world’s best food in CNN’s Facebook poll, a Malaysian chef says “Philippines is known to have the worst food in Asia, ask any chefs and they will tell you I am right.”

Malaysia ranked sixth in the said CNN poll with 265 votes. Taiwan got the top position with 8,242 votes, followed by Philippines with 1,528 votes, Italy (810), Thailand (470) and Japan with 443 votes. At seventh to tenth place are Hong Kong, India, Greece and Vietnam respectively.

Malaysian chef Datuk Redzuawan Ismail told Astro AWANI, Malaysia’s first 24 hour news and information station, “my top five choices in terms of variety should be: number one Malaysia, followed by Italy, Thailand, Japan and India.”

“I see food as varieties and flavours that reflect the culture and food, and that is why Malaysia should be the first world’s best food destination,” the Malaysian chef explains.

In the CNN article, the writer says “blessed with an abundance of seafood, tropical fruits and creative cooks, there’s more to Filipino food than the mind-boggling balut (duck embryo).”

“Filipino food isn’t as well known as the other cuisines on this list, but with more than 7,000 islands and a colorful history, this archipelago has some delicious dishes of its own,” the CNN writer adds.
