BIFF fighters killed after military started firing artillery

7th Infantry Battalion of Philippine Army fired dozens of mortars and 105 howitzers towards the area of Kabasalan a village in Pikit, North Cotobato on Saturday initially killing four Moro rebels from the group of Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters.

“We would like to regain control of Barangay Kabasalan and all other villages nearby from BIFF occupation,” Commander of the 602nd Infantry Brigade Colonel Noel Clement.

Thousands of families fled from Kalbugan, Bago-Inged, Pagalungan, Maguindanao and Kabasalan, Barongis, Buliok, Bulol and Rajamuda in Pikit, North Cotabato after BIFF and Moro Islamic Liberation Front started fighting early of February.

The military said it is operating in coordination with the Coordinating Committee on the Cessation of Hostilities.
