The National Economic and Development Authority on its meeting last June 19 chaired by President Benigno S. Aquino III approved the PhP123 billion construction of hybrid Laguna Lakeshore Expressway/Dike (LLEDP) through Public-Private Partnership (PPP), the biggest PPP in Aquino administration.
“The project has two components – a road dike and a land reclamation. The project aims to mitigate flooding in the Laguna Lake coastal towns, particularly in Southern Metro Manila and Laguna, improve the environmental condition of the Lake, and promote economic activities through the efficient transport of goods and people,” said Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
“The Laguna Lakeshore Expressway Dike Project involves the construction of a 47-kilometer flood control dike on top of which will be a high speed six-lane expressway,” the department added.
LLEDP will start from Taguig, through Muntinlupa and Calamba, ending in Los Banos at its boundary with Bay, Laguna.
According to Secretary Singson this project will be bid out under the Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) Law before the end of the year. Construction is expected to start late 2015 and finished in 2021.
