China to world: We will continue to build in Spratly Islands

The Chinese government said it will continue to build other facilities in its fake islands in disputed maritime territories in West Philippine Sea after confirming that two lighthouses were completed and started operating in Cuarteron Reef and Johnson South Reef in the Spratly Islands.

“The next step, China will continue to build other civilian and international public facilities in the Spratly Islands to better serve South China Sea coastal countries,” Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said.

She added that the lighthouses will improve the safety of vessels transiting in the territory.

The statement from the Chinese spokesperson was also made after reports emerged that the US Navy is planning to sail a warship within the 12 nautical miles or territorial waters of fake islands created by the Chinese government.
