Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe issues WWII statement, cites deep remorse, apology

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on Friday issued a statement to mark the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II, which referred to Japan’s repeated expressions of deep remorse and apology over the past.

“Japan has repeatedly expressed the feelings of deep remorse and heartfelt apology for its actions during the war,” the statement said.

What Abe would say has drawn much international attention, particularly from countries that suffered under Japanese militarism, including China and South Korea which were concerned Abe may water down previous Japanese government apologies
