Chinese President travelling to US for first state visit: Most important event in US-China relations

Chinese President Xi Jinping will be travelling to United States for his first state visit. A high ranking Chinese military official met with US National Security Advisor Susan Rice last week to make sure Xi’s meeting with US President Obama a great success.

Vice chairman of China’s Central Military Commission Fan Chonglong said both China and the United States attach great importance to Xi’s visit. He called the visit as the most important event in the development of the China-U.S. ties this year, the official press agency of the People’s Republic of China Xinhua reports.

Fan Chonglong together with U.S. Army Chief of Staff Raymond Odierno witnessed the signing of the China-US Army-to-Army Dialogue Mechanism at the National Defense University Friday, June 12.

The said mechanism will open a new channel for leaders in the two armies “to raise and discuss issues of mutual concern such as humanitarian assistance and disaster response practices,” according to the Pentagon.
