The United States Navy reports latest challenge done by China’s PLA Navy against a P-8A Poseidon in West Philippine Sea. “Sailors assigned to Patrol Squadron (VP) 45 conduct flight operations aboard a P-8A Poseidon over the South China Sea,” US Navy said.
“During the flight, the crew of the P-8A documented several warnings, issued by China’s People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN), to leave the area. The mission documented the continued expansion of reefs which have been turned into man-made islands with airport infrastructure in the South China Sea. VP-45 is on deployment supporting U.S. 7th Fleet operations in the Pacific.”
Commenting on the said incident, Daniel Russel top US diplomat for Asia-Pacific said “nobody in their right mind is going to try to stop the U.S. Navy from operating.”
“But it’s not enough that a U.S. military plane can overfly international waters, even if there is a challenge or a hail and query,” Russel said as quoted by international media. “We believe that every country and all civilian actors also should have unfettered access to international waters and international airspace.”
