Messi has highest transfer value, may leave Barca

The twenty-seven year old FC Barcelona forward Lionel Messi is number one in CIES Football Observatory semi-annual list of the most valuable football players in the world. Messi’s transfer value reached $262 million.

International Centre for Sports Studies Football Observatory is a private foundation affiliated to the University of Neuchâtel based in Switzerland. Since 2009, the observatory used an algorithm based on 1,500 fee-paying club transfers to compute the current transfer value of athletes.
