Obama’s new policy saving hundreds of thousand undocumented Filipinos in US

United States of America President Barack Obama revealed on Thursday an executive measure that will give chance to undocumented immigrants residing in US not to be deported immediately. “You can come out of the shadows and get right with the law,” Obama tells undocumented immigrants.

“If you’ve been in America for more than five years, if you have children who are American citizens or legal residents, if you register, pass a criminal background check, and you’re willing to pay your fair share of taxes – you’ll be able to apply to stay in this country temporarily, without fear of deportation,” Obama said in a televised speech at White House.

Those who will present themselves to the government will be given a chance to work legally in US for three years. However, Obama said the policy does not grant citizenship.

Philippine Foreign Affairs said, “We welcome the recent announcement of President Obama granting immigration relief for undocumented migrants meeting the set criteria.”

There are over two hundred thousand undocumented Filipino immigrants in US.
