China joining world’s largest naval drill led by US

People’s Liberation Army confirmed its participation in the world’s largest naval excercise. China will join the US administered 24th Rim of the Pacific Exercise to be held in Hawaii on June 26 to August 1.

From being an observer in international drills, China will join in a large scale US-led naval drill for the first time.

A frigate, destroyer, hospital ship, and supply ship from China together with personnels, ships, subs, and aircrafts from Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, China, Colombia, France, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Peru, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand, Tonga, the United Kingdom, and the United States will be joining in the exercise.


Activities include maritime security actions, canon firing exercises, maritime warship exercises, military medicine exchanges, and humanitarian and disaster reduction drills.

Philippines welcomes China’s participation in the said exercise. Rim of the Pacific Exercise is done every other year with goals to promote interoperability and stability in Pacific Rim armed forces.
