Gurmit Singh leaves MediaCorp

Actor-host Gurmit Singh didn’t renew his contract with MediaCorp which expires December this year in order to devote more time with his family.

Gurmit has spent 20 years in his acting career and was known to be the Best Comedy Actor five times in the Asian Television Awards. Further, he was voted among the Top 10 Most Popular Male Artistes in an annual Star Awards. During the Golden Horse Award in 2007, he garnered the Best Actor nomination. Also, Singh is best known for playing the loud, curly-haired with yellow boots Phua Chu Kang from 1997 to 2007.

According to Singh, It has been a fulfilling experience to be a part of the MediaCorp family. Moreover, MediaCorp’s Deputy CEO Chang Long Jong revealed that Singh is the funniest man in Caldecott but only those who work closely with him know that Singh possesses true professionalism.

“I plan to spend more time with my kids, whether it’s going on holidays or just being there for them. More importantly I want to date my wife, Melissa, on a regular, frequent basis, because she has been there all this time supporting my full- time career with MediaCorp. It’s time that I give back what my family has sacrificed for me these past 20 years,“ the 49 year-old actor stated.
