Maxene Magalona cuts hair to help cancer patients

Matrix, the American brand salon selected actress Maxene Magalona to be one of their ambassadors for the ‘Matrix 8-Inch Cut for Cancer Challenge’ project.

Matrix together with Kythe Ateneo, an organization that provides psychosocial care and assistance to young cancer patients worked hand in hand to promote the said program.

There are about 3,500 children in the Philippines struggling with cancer everyday. To help them out, Filipino women are encourage to cut off and donate eight inches of their hair to create hairpieces for cancer patients.

Maxene is known for having a long hair but when asked to support the project, she grabbed the challenge and cut 10 inches of her hair. One of Maxene’s reason for supporting the project is her late father, master rapper Francis Magalona, who passed away due to leukemia complications in 2009.

“You are transforming yourself and also transforming the lives of others. That’s an achievement,” said Maxene. The actress also said she is “more than thrilled” to do the challenge.

“Even back in college, I have volunteered for activities by Kythe Ateneo because I believe in their cause uplifting the spirits of cancer patients,” Maxene added.

Volunteer hairdressers from David’s Salon offered to do haircuts for free at The Block, 2/F, SM City North Edsa, Quezon City, October 25.

Jackie Go, a lifestyle blogger and one of the ambassador of the project also took the challenge.
