PBA opens its 40th season at Philippine Arena

The Philippine Basketball Association held its opening ceremony of the 40th season of Philippine Cup Conference on Sunday, October 19, 2014 at the Philippine Arena in Bocaue, Bulacan.

After the opening ceremony, Manny Pacquiao’s Kia Sorento went head to head with Blackwater Elite.

Filipino boxing champion Manny Pacquiao stands as the team’s playing-coach. Playing with him are some of the young players like Reil Cervantes, LA Revilla, and Paul Sanga while veterans Paul Artadi, Sunday Salvacion, and Eddie Laure plays for Blackwater. Despite his upcoming fight with with American Chris Algieri in Macau on November 23, Pacquiao was allowed by his trainer to play for the opening game.

Most of the games will be held at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum and some games will take place in the Mall of Asia Arena, Cuneta Astrodome, and Ynares Center Antipolo.

The all-Filipino Philippine Cup conference will also be held outside Manila starting on October 25, Saturday in Lucena City. Other out of town games will be held in Lanao Del Norte, Davao City, Cagayan De Oro City, Laguna City, and Dipolog City.

For the Philippine cup eliminations twelve teams will undergo a single round robin setup. Each team will face all teams. Top two teams will automatically advance to the semifinals while bottom two wil be eliminated. Teams finishing third to tenth will proceed to quarter finals match up.
