The former 6-foot-6 player of La Salle Greenhills Kobe Paras officially announced on his social networking site account that he accepted the offer to play for University of California Los Angeles in US NCAA Division I.
“I’m really happy to say that I have committed to UCLA!” Paras said.
Kobe who is known for his leaping and dunking skills is the son of two-time PBA Most Valuable Player Benjie Paras and former actress Jackie Forster. The 17-year-old athlete is part of Batang Gilas U-18 team that represented the Philippines last August in the FIBA Asia Championship.
The UCLA Bruins are 11-time NCAA Division I champions and have produced a total of 83 players who have played in the NBA. To name some of UCLA products are all-time scoring leader Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Gail Goodrich, Reggie Miller, Bill Walton, Jamaal Wilkes, Kevin Love and Russell Westbrook. UCLA is currently coached by Steve Alford.
Aside from UCLA, Universities like Fresno State, Arizona State, UC Irvine, California, and UT-Arlington have also showed interest and offered Kobe a scholarship.
At present, Kobe is a junior student of LA Cathedral in the United States.
