The most prestigious search for OPM hits “Himig Handog” P-Pop Love Songs 2014 held its finals night in the Big Dome on Sunday, September 28, 2014. The event’s hosts are ABS-CBN’s stars Kim Chiu, Xian Lim, Robi Domingo, and Alex Gonzaga. Singers Yeng Constantino, Sam Concepcion, Karylle, and Erik Santos opened the event with a production number.
There were only 15 songs chosen to vie in the grand finals from over 6,000 entries submitted by aspiring Filipino composers from all over the worldwide. The top fifteen finalist songs were performed live by various OPM artists accompanied by ABS-CBN Philharmonic Orchestra.
The songs were inspired by different experiences about love and relationships. Students from some of the country’s most prominent educational institutions made a music video for each song.
“Himig Handog” P-Pop Love Song 2014 grand winner is “Mahal Ko o Mahal Ako” written by Edwin Marollano and interpreted by KZ Tandingan. Runner-ups are David Dimaguila’s “Halik sa Hangin” interpreted by Ebe Dancel with Abra, Melchora Mabilog’s “Mahal Kita Pero” interpreted by Janella Salvador, Eric De Leon’s “Walang Basagan ng Trip” performed by Jugs and Teddy, Nica Del Rosario’s “Hindi Wala” interpreted by Juris respectively.
Meljohn Magno’s “Simpleng Tulad Mo” interpreted by Daniel Padilla won two special awards.
