The Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) has called for a mandatory conference, Tuesday, August 26, with ABS-CBN including TV host and comedian Vice Ganda regarding two of his programs which received complaints.
In an article by Philippine Entertainment Portal (PEP), Vice Ganda’s noontime show It’s Showtime and his Saturday late-night talk show Gandang Gabi Vice, were criticized for containing “offensive and degrading scenes” and “use of sexual undertones.”
Vice Ganda, whose real name is Jose Viceral, earned disapproval in his program It’s Showtime for its July 28, 2014 episode where Viceral, in one of the program’s segments, wiped his sweaty armpit with a towel and then smudged it onto a male dancer’s face.
Additionally, his August 3, 2014 episode of Gandang Gabi Vice featuring actor Piolo Pascual and his personal assistant Moi Marcampo, was complained for scenes using words with double meanings during Viceral’s interview with the guests.
MTRCB also invited resource personalities, among them are executive director Delia Hernandez of National Council for Children’s Television (NCCT), Atty. Klarise Estorninos (Director for Child’s Rights) and Atty. Kristoffer Claudio (Program Officer) of Ateneo Human Rights Center (AHRC).
During the conference, topics such as the “programs content that tend to affect the value formation and intellectual development of children”, and the network’s responsibility to have a “more pro-active self-regulation” were discussed. It was noted by executive director Hernandez that the program’s timeslot, 12.30 to 3pm, most likely have children watching it. For his late-night talk show, it was decided that minors will not be allowed on the show.
Because of these deemed violations, the network is ordered to undergo a three-month “remedial and self-regulatory measures”, also Vice Ganda and the staff of both programs will have to go through a seminar regarding “audience-sensitivity and the administration of justice”.
