Former ‘Eat Bulaga’ dancer among fatalities in Bulacan fieldtrip mishap

The remains of Bulacan State University (BSU) tourism student, Maiko Bartolome was recovered Thursday, August 21, with the help of local residents who volunteered with the search. According to the local rescuers, the body was harder to find since it was trapped beneath a large rock and also covered by pieces of wood.

The 26-year-old Bartolome was a former member of “EB Babes”, a female dance group seen in the noontime show “Eat Bulaga”.

Bartolome, was the last among the bodies recovered in Madlum River. She was part of a group of tourism students who went to Madlum Cave in San Miguel, Bulacan for an educational tour. Nine BSU students were reportedly crossing the river when they were swept away by raging floodwater Tuesday, August 19.

The remains of students, Mikhail Alcantara, Phil Rodney Alejo, Michelle Ann Rose Bonzo, and Helena Marcelo were found Tuesday afternoon, while the bodies of Jenette Rivera and Madel Navarro were recovered the next day.

The local officials, who were not aware of the said fieldtrip, shared that they could have given assistance to the group if they had been informed. According to the Bulacan Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (PDRRMC), the flash floods may have been caused by the heavy rains on Mt. Manalmon.

Due to the incident, the tourist spot was temporarily closed.
