The 9-year-old ‘The Voice Kids’ champion proved she has loyal followers even after the popular singing contest ended last month.
In an article by ABS-CBN News, it was said that their Saturday show ‘Maalaala Mo Kaya’ garnered a rating of 38.4%, while its competing program only garnered 12.8%. Added to that, Lyca’s MMK episode even surpassed the ratings of The Voice Kids’ July 26 episode, which gathered 37.7% nationwide viewership.
Lyca, who portrayed herself, gave the viewers a glimpse of her life’s story, from scouring places for junk to sell, to being the first winner of the popular singing contest, ‘The Voice Kids’. She was also compared to multi-awarded singer and veteran actress, Nora Aunor, earning the nickname “little superstar”.
In a previous interview, Maria Nessel, the mother of Lyca, admitted that she was hesitant to let Lyca join the competition, believing these kinds of competitions are only for the rich.
It was later on during her rendition of the popular song, “Halik” or kiss by the popular Filipino band, Aegis, at the blind auditions that Lyca captured not only the heart of mentor Sarah Geronimo, but also the hearts of people around the world.
Lyca is reported to be included in the newest installment of Vice Ganda’s “Praybeyt Benjamin 2” which will compete at this year’s Metro Manila Film Festival.
