The 46-year-old Canadian singer called off her Las Vegas shows and her upcoming Asia tour, which includes a concert in SM Mall of Asia Arena scheduled on November 29. She has postponed all her “activities indefinitely”, putting her career aside to focus on her family’s health issues.
In a statement released on her website, the singer said, “I want to devote every ounce of my strength and energy to my husband’s healing, and to do so, it’s important for me to dedicate this time to him and to our children. I also want to apologize to all my fans everywhere, for inconveniencing them, and I thank them so much for their love and support.”
Last December, Dion’s husband René Angélil, 72, underwent surgery to remove a “cancerous tumor”. Dion herself has also been battling throat inflammation. She has yet to recover from her illness, which resulted for her to be unable to perform in her July 29 concert.
According to a publicist for the singer, the couple is having a hard time balancing Dion’s “very active show business schedule”, raising their three kids and dealing with Angélil’s disease.
Dion’s announcement to spend more time with her family, came just two months after her husband Angélil stepped down as Dion’s manager to focus on his health.
