Police hunk joins Misters of the Philippines 2014

Police officers are often visualized as men in uniform with not-so-flat bellies. So it was as a surprise when PO2 Mariano Flormata Jr., a police officer, was selected as one of the 20 finalists who will compete in this year’s Misters of the Philippines contest.

Flormata, known as “Neil Perez” in the pageant, is actually a bomb and explosives technician of the Philippine National Police’s Aviation and Security Group (Avsegroup). Their unit is responsible in protecting airports across the country from acts of terrorism and other offenses that threaten civil aviation.

Flormata is a technician at the Avsegroup assigned at Ninoy Aquino International Airport. He is trained in bomb disposal and aircraft anti-hijacking.

As far as the Philippine National Police (PNP) is concerned, since the contest is legitimate and decent, they won’t meddle with his extracurricular activities, as long as Flormata continues his job as a policeman without any kind of interference coming from the male pageant.

The 29-year-old Flormata, or Mar to family and friends, was encouraged by a friend to join the pageant. By being part of the contest, he hopes to promote a healthy lifestyle to fellow policemen. He admitted that taking part in this pageant is a first for him. Even with no modelling experience, Flormata is not discouraged; he’s just hoping that he won’t fail the PNP.

With less than a month before the finals on September 7, a lot of preparations have to be done. Still, Flormata’s job as a police will always be on top of the list, attending contest schedules during his days off, or by going on leave.
