After going around the country for the last few months, Senator Alan Peter Cayetano finally announced his intention to join the vice presidential derby in 2016. “I am running for Vice President of the Republic of The Philippines. I am putting my faith in God and in our people,” Cayetano announced during a visit in Davao City on Tuesday.
Cayetano made the declaration a day before Liberal Party (LP)’s scheduled announcement of the running mate of Manuel ‘Mar’ Roxas II.
Cayetano is reportedly one of the three names being considered as LP’s vice presidential bet. The others are Camarines Sur Rep. Leni Robredo and Batangas Gov. Vilma Santos. “As I went around the country for my PTK (Presyo, Trabaho, Kita) advocacy, I personally saw the hardships of our farmers, vendors, tricycles, jeepney and taxi drivers who are victimized by 5/6 (loan sharks) due to lack of resources,” the senator explained.
“The problem is clear. I hope you will allow me to be part of the solution,” he added. Cayetano became the second Nacionalista Party (NP) senator to announce intent to run for vice president.
Last June 25, NP’s member Senator Antonio Trillanes IV expressed intention to run for vice president with or without the NP’s support. Senator Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr., another NP member, also expressed intention to seek higher post in the 2016 polls.
