De Lima confirms senatorial bid

Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary Leila M. De Lima on Monday confirmed that she is included in the senatorial lineup of the Liberal Party (LP) for the elections next year. However, De Lima clarified that she is just waiting for the official announcement of the LP which is expected the soonest possible time.

In an ambush interview, De Lima said that she was already informed by LP standard bearer Manuel “Mar” Roxas II that her name is included in the administration ticket.

Although she has not yet resigned from her post, De Lima earlier said that she has recommended to President Benigno S. Aquino III her possible replacement as DOJ Secretary last week.

President Aquino will lead the Liberal Party’s National Executive Council (NECO) meeting and its presentation of presidential and vice presidential candidates on Wednesday, a ruling party’s stalwart announced on Monday.

“The president will be there as the chairman of the party. He will preside over the business meeting of the NECO, after the business meeting, we will have the presentation of the presidential and vice presidential candidate of the party. The President will be there, as chairman of the party,” Senate President Franklin Drilon explained in a media interview before Monday’s Senate session.
