Lawmakers honor Special Envoy to China

Lawmakers from the House of Representatives headed by Speaker Feliciano Belmonte, Jr. commended and honored, September 21, Special Envoy to China and prominent Chinese-Filipino entrepreneur Carlos Chan for his role as an outstanding Philippine entrepreneur and for his contribution to strengthening the country’s ties with China.

During the recognition event, Belmonte presented Chan with a copy of House Resolution No. 219, in substitution of House Resolution No. 2287 principally authored by Belmonte, and co-authored by Majority Leader Neptali Gonzales II and Minority Leader Ronaldo Zamora. The resolution adopted by the House last Aug. 18, 2015, acknowledged Chan’s accomplishments and contributions to the nation as a successful entrepreneur and diplomat.

“Mr. Chan is a source of inspiration to many Filipinos, as he exemplifies the Filipino virtues of hard work, discipline, excellence, and humility, and is worthy of praise and emulation,” says in the House resolution.”Mr. Chan had the vision and foresight to expand the operations of LMC into China. He founded the Liwayway China Company Limited just as the country was on the brink of rapid modernization.”

The resolution also acknowledged Chan’s contribution in the field of international relations and diplomacy, and was appointed as the Philippine Special Envoy to China by both President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and President Benigno S. Aquino III.

“As a Special Envoy to China, Mr. Chan was conferred both the Order of Sikatuna, with the Rank of Datu, and the Presidential Medal of Merit by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. The honors were given for his outstanding commitment in promoting the Philippines to other nations, enhancing the prestige of the country, the government, and the Filipino people, and for strengthening economic ties between the Philippines and China,” said the resolution.
