Armed Forces of the Philippines Southern Luzon Command (SOLCOM) chief Lieutenant General Ricardo R. Visaya directed all men under his command to join the Filipino people in choosing new leaders in local and national government next year. He advised soldiers and CAFGUs to participate not only in the upcoming National Elections but also in the Local Elections by voting in the localities where they are assigned.
This formed part of his Commander’s Guidance during his field visit to frontline units that started from September 2 to October 4, 2015, SOLCOM said. SOLCOM has around 10,000 troops and 10,000 CAFGU Active Auxiliaries in its area of responsibility covering CALABARZON, MIMARO and Bicol Regions.
“The soldiers are members of the society and casting their votes is one way of exercising their political rights,” said Lieutenant General Visaya. “As much as possible, I discourage our soldiers to take the Absentee Voting because it only allows soldiers to vote for national posts.”
Last August 17, COMELEC-Quezon conducted a satellite registration activity at Camp Nakar in Lucena City upon the request of LtGen Ricardo R. Visaya. “COMELEC is thankful to the SOLCOM Officials and to the members of the AFP who were responsive to the program about No Bio, No Boto,” said Election Officer IV Atty. Amy Barbacena.
