US Congress seeking more ways to support PHL security, military forces capability

Philippine Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert F. del Rosario received a United States bipartisan Congressional Delegation (CODEL) October 17. The delegation was led by Chairman of US House Judiciary Committee Virginia Representative Robert William “Bob” Goodlatte.

Secretary del Rosario briefed the American lawmaker on the latest developments in West Philippine Sea. The Filipino official also welcomed support expressed by US Congressional delegation.

“The US CODEL pledged to find more ways to deepen US assistance for the Philippine Government, particularly in terms of capability building for PH security and military forces,” the Department of Foreign Affairs said.

“Secretary Del Rosario and the US CODEL also agreed that it would be important for the Philippines to remain engaged in the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) process,” DFA added.

US CODEL is on an Asia-Pacific trip, visiting Hawaii, Vietnam, Singapore, Malaysia and the Philippines. US CODEL members are Rep. George Holding (Republican, North Carolina), Rep. Jason Smith (Republican, Missouri), Rep. Sheila Jackson-Lee (Democrat, Texas) and Rep. Hank Johnson (Democrat, Georgia).
