Philippine Marine Corps commandant Major Gen. Romeo Tanalgo was appointed as the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) vice chief-of-staff replacing Lt. Gen. John S. Bonafos who will be retiring Monday after reaching the mandatory retirement age of 56.
Tanalgo, a member of the Philippine Military Academy Class of 1983, will assume Bonafos’ position Friday. The outgoing AFP vice chief-of-staff is a member of the PMA Class of 1982.
“Following the Commander-in-Chief’s approval, the Armed Forces of the Philippines announces the appointment of Major Gen. Romeo Tanalgo as the incoming Vice Chief of Staff, AFP,”said AFP spokesman Col. Restituto Padilla.
“Major Gen. Tanalgo will also remain as the incumbent Commandant of the Philippine Marine Corps until such time that his replacement is named,” he added.
Padilla said the new AFP vice chief-of-staff is a dedicated and seasoned Marine officer who has served with distinction in all his previous assignments.
