P5.6-M worth of marijuana destroyed in Cebu

Elements of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) destroyed about PhP5.6 million worth of fully-grown marijuana plants and seedlings in Cebu and also arrested the cultivator, PDEA official said on Thursday.

PDEA Director General Undersecretary Arturo G. Cacdac Jr. said the teams, composed of operatives from PDEA Regional Office 7 under Director Jeffrey Bangsa, 5th Special Forces Company, Intelligence Service Unit 7, Philippine Army, and the Regional Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit conducted a marijuana eradication in Sitio Law-ang, Barangay Basiao, Badian, Cebu, at around 2:45 a.m. on Tuesday.

He said the operation resulted in the seizure and destruction of 26,958 fully-grown marijuana plants and 1,200 marijuana seedlings, with an estimated market value of PhP5.6 million.

The total land area of the marijuana plantation site is 13,200 square meters.

Cacdac said that Ryan Dionaldo, 30, the alleged cultivator, was arrested during the operation.

According to Cacdac, the suspect will be charged for violation of Section 16 (Cultivation or Culture of Plants Classified as Dangerous Drugs or Are Sources Thereof), Article II of Republic Act No. 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
