Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chairman Francis Tolentino personally manned traffic along two busy thoroughfares in the metropolis during the early morning rush hours on Wednesday. Tolentino first directed traffic along Katipunan Ave. in Quezon City, particularly in front of Ateneo de Manila University Gate 3. He later proceeded to Mandaluyong City, where he also manned traffic along Epifanio Delos Santos Ave. (EDSA) in front of SM Megamall starting at 8 a.m.
To further motivate his traffic enforcers to do their job better, Tolentino said he is also looking at the possibility of being a traffic enforcer everyday.
Tolentino was criticized earlier for being in Cebu on Tuesday, together with Interior and Local Government Secretary Manuel “Mar” Roxas II, the standard-bearer of the Liberal Party in the 2016 Presidential elections.
His critics said that the MMDA chair should have been in Metro Manila solving traffic.
Tolentino lashed back at his critics, saying that they should instead come up with a solution on the traffic problem. “Let us help one another. If you have solutions and suggestions, let us work together to address the problem,” he said.
When asked on his possible senatorial bid, Tolentino said his inclusion in the Liberal Party’s senatorial slate will be decided upon by President Benigno S. Aquino III.
Tolentino also rejected calls for him to resign over the worsening traffic problem in the metropolis.
