Supreme Court grants Enrile’s petition for bail

The Supreme Court (SC) en banc today voted in favor for the temporary liberty of detained Senator Juan Ponce Enrile. “The Court granted the petition for bail of petitioner Juan Ponce Enrile, subject to the terms and conditions to be specified by the Court in its Order which will be forthcoming,” SC Public Information Office Chief Atty. Theodore O. Te said in a press conference.

The SC justices voted 8-4 with Associate Justice Francis H. Jardeleza inhibiting from the case as he is a former Solicitor General. Dissenting are Chief Justice Maria Lourdes P. Aranal Sereno, Senior Associate Justice Antonio T. Carpio and Associate Justices Estela Perlas-Bernabe and Marvic F. Leonen.

Enrile is facing a case of plunder and graft before the Sandiganbayan for his alleged misuse of priority development assistance fund (PDAF).

He is currently under hospital arrest at Philippine National Police (PNP) General Hospital, in Camp Crame, Quezon City.
