Philippines enhances relations with Vietnam, Turkey

Philippines Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert del Rosario had a meeting with his Vietnamese counterpart Minister Pham Binh Minh at the sidelines of 48th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on August 04. “The two Ministers discussed enhancing cooperative activities to further expand bilateral relations, as well as the Philippines’ hosting of the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting in November 2015,” the Department of Foreign Affairs said.

Secretary del Rosario also had bilateral talks with Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Cavu?o?lu at sidelines of the said regional meeting in Malaysia.

DFA said “Secretary del Rosario also lauded the signing of the Air Services Agreement between the Philippines and Turkey in 2014 that had since paved the way for direct flights between Manila and Istanbul by Turkish Airlines.”

He also informed his Turkish counterpart on Philippines’ position on West Philippine Sea, as well as developments in the arbitration case filed before the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA) in The Hague, the Netherlands.

Minister Cavu?o?lu cited defense cooperation as one area where the two countries could work closely together. He also affirmed that Turkish International Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) is keen on increasing development with the Philippines as well as Turkey’s continuing contributions to the Mindanao peace process.
