Senators Bongbong Marcos and Grace Poe released statements following the appointment of Police Director Ricardo Marquez as the new Philippine National Police chief. Both senators welcomed the appointment of Marquez.
“The appointment of a permanent PNP Chief would finally bring clarity to the command structure of our police organization,” Senator Bongbong said.
He added that he personally know Dir. Marquez because he once served as Regional Director for Region 1. “I am confident that he has the ability and experience to lead the PNP and that he will discharge his duty to the best of his ability,” he added.
While Senator Grace Poe does not personally know the new PNP chief. “Hindi ko personal na kakilala si Dir. Marquez, subalit anupaman ay kailangan niya ang suporta at dasal nating lahat upang siya ay maging matagumpay sa kanyang paglilingkod bilang bagong Pinuno,” she said.
Marquez will have the rank of four-star general. He will be replacing Deputy Director General Leonardo Espina, who is set to retire on Thursday, as the father of 155,000-strong national police.
Marquez is a member of Philippine Military Academy Class 1982. He will reach the mandatory retirement age of 56 on August 26, 2016.
