NPA leaves three dead comrades after encounter with troopers of 85th IB

The Armed Forces of the Philippines-Southern Luzon Command reports the death of three New People’s Army rebels after an encounter with a squad of soldiers from the 85th Infantry Battalion (85th IB) in Brgy Liwayway, Mauban, Quezon around 7:14 p.m. of July 8, 2015.

85th IB Commander Lieutenant Colonel Simeon Talosig said his troops were on combat patrol when they chanced upon an undetermined number of rebels ensuing a 30 minute firefight.

“The NPAs left the cadavers of three of their comrades. Also, three M16 rifles, an M653 ‘baby armalite’ and an M79 grenade launcher were recovered by our troops,” said Lt Col Talosig.

No one was hurt among the soldiers.

“Additional troops were inserted in the area to track down the rest of the rebel group encountered by our soldiers,” said 201st Infantry Brigade Commander Colonel Rhoderick Parayno. Reinforcement inludes K9 tracking dogs and members of the Quezon Province Police Public Safety Company who are manning checkpoints in strategic areas.

“We have increased the pace of our military operations in all our focus areas this year. This is a extra step towards a more peaceful region ,” said Southern Luzon Command Chief Lieutenant General Ricardo R. Visaya. “We will always remain on guard for the safety and protection the people.”
