Military: Development projects in countryside to continue while eliminating NPA

The Armed Forces of the Philippine commits to continue development projects in rural communities while conducting operations aimed to eliminate the New People’s Army. Internal Peace and Security Plan (IPSP) “Bayanihan” is the military’s strategy in resolving the insurgency problem in the country.

Just recently, the military confirmed the death of notorious NPA leader Leoncio Pitao alias Parago, commander of the NPA’s 1st Pulang Bagani Command (PBC 1), in Davao City.

During the first quarter of 2015, the AFP recorded the neutralization of 340 NPA rebels and recovered at least 166 firearms.

“The AFP continues its fight against insurgency and its causes with the implementation of various projects in the countryside which seek to uplift the quality of life of residents there while actively working against the New People’s Army,” AFP public affairs office chief Lt. Col. Harold Cabunoc said.

The military with Philippine National Police also conducted a successful law enforcement operation against Adelberto Silva early June. Silva is believed to be the secretary-general of Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army-National Democratic Front (CPP-NPA-NDF).

He was arrested at Bacoor City, Cavite by virtue of arrest warrant ordered by Regional Trial Court Branch 18 in Leyte for 15 counts of murder.
