The Department of Health (DOH) confirms today in a televised press conference that a 36-year-old foreigner travelling from the Middle East tested positive of Middle East Respiratory Syndrome-Corona Virus (MERS-CoV). The patient is currently being treated at Research Institute of Tropical Medicine (RITM) in Muntinlupa City.
The patient shown signs and symptoms of MERS-CoV and was referred to DOH last Saturday.
She added that one individual with close contact is being monitored.
DOH Secretary Janette Garin said the patient is responsive and cooperative. The Health Secretary added that the patient has low viral load and possibly on recovery stage.
“Pinapaalala po natin sa publiko na walang documented community transmission ang MERS,” Garin said.
First confirmed case of MERs-CoV was in February. The patient is a Filipina nurse from Saudi Arabia. She recovered in the same month and no transmission was recorded.
