Troopers from 601st Infantry Brigade had an encounter with the remnants of Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters in Barangay Macalag, Datu Unsay town, Maguindanao June 7. After 15 minutes of firefight, the rebels withdrew with undetermined number of casualties, 6th Infantry Division public affairs office chief Captain Jo-ann Petinglay said.
The government forces captured the newly-constructed BIFF camp one kilometer away from the encounter area. They recovered from the encounter site a 7.62mm automatic rifle.
At the said camp four jungle hammocks, two pairs battle dress uniforms, one upper Philippine National Police Special Action Force uniform with an “Usman” name tag, one bandoleer for M-14 rifle, one bandoleer for M-16 and a sweatshirt with “BIFF” markings were recovered.
“We believe it’s from the SAF 44 because no one is selling that kind of uniform here, unlike our uniform which you can buy anywhere here (in Maguindanao),” Capt. Petinglay said.
