Operatives of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG), on Monday night, bagged Adelberto Silva believed to be currently the top leader, secretary-general of Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army-National Democratic Front (CPP-NPA-NDF), after the arrest of Tiamzon couple March last year.
Silva was arrested by virtue of arrest warrant ordered by Regional Trial Court Branch 18 in Leyte for 15 counts of murder.
Arrested with him are his wife Sharon Cabusao and Isidro De Lima. Recovered from them were three rifle grenades, subversive documents, improvised bomb components and several electronic devices.
“This victory against criminality is attributed to the concerted efforts of the AFP, PNP and other stakeholders in our common pursuit for peace. This accomplishment is for the innocent people who are victimized by the NPA’s senseless violence,” AFP chief General Gregorio Pio Catapang Jr. said.
Last month ranking CPP-NPA leaders including Benito and Wilma Tiamzon, Satur Ocampo, Vicente Ladlad, Randal Echaniz, Rafael Baylosis were arraigned at the Manila Regional Trial Court Branch 47 for 15 counts of murder regarding the 1985 Inopacan, Leyte Massacre.
The Inopacan, Leyte Massacre was among the heinious crimes committed by the CPP-NPA-NDF in 1985 in their attempt to purge their ranks of suspected military “deep penetration agents.”
