PLA shows off military might in South China Sea

China’s People’s Liberation Army shows off several of its most advanced weapon systems in Hainan Island, the smallest and southernmost province of the People’s Republic of China located in South China Sea. The demonstration and deployment of PLA’s most advanced weapon systems comes after several encounter with United States Navy’s warship and aircraft.

Weapons demonstrated at Haikou Xiuying port in Hainan were J-10 fighter, WZ-10 gunship, Type 63A amphibious light tank, anti-tank missile vehicle and armoured command vehicle, Xinhua News Agency reported.

According to the report, Hainan will most likely be utilized as the main PLA military base if China enters into conflict in South China Sea. Hainan is a thousand kilometers far from Pagasa Island in Kalayaan Island Group.

“China’s armed forces will continue to improve its routine combat readiness, maintain a posture of high alertness, and conscientiously organize border, coastal and air defense patrols and guard duties,” says in the latest White Paper released by China’s defense department.
