The Philippine Navy successfully hosted a sports event with Vietnamese People’s Navy at Parola (Northeast Cay) Island Detachment part of Spratly Islands in West Philippine Sea Wednesday, May 27. The event was held as a return visit after Vietnamese People’s Navy hosted a similar event last June 28, 2014.
“Philippine navy personnel reflected the true Filipino virtues of hospitality and friendship that even language did not pose a barrier,” Philippine Navy spokesman Colonel Edgard Arevalo said. “The participants understood each other through signs and gestures.”
“They were very happy. They were happy about the turnout of the activity and they would like to have another similar event,” Col. Arevalo noted.
Sports and games played includes volleyball, soccer, tug-of-war, sack race, and centipede race. PN won tug-of-war and in the sack race for male. While VPN, declared as over-all winner, won in volleyball, soccer, centipede race, and sack race for female.
The event was conducted as China continues militarization and land reclamation in West Philippine Sea.
