Ferrer, Deles charged with treason, sedition

Peace panel chair for Philippine government Miriam Coronel Ferrer, presidential peace adviser Teresita Deles and peace panel chair for MILF Mohagher Iqbal are facing treason and inciting to sedition charges. Twenty-one others were included in the complaints filed by Buhay Party-list Representative Lito Atienza and others before Manila Senior Deputy City Prosecutor Eufrosino Sulla, May 28.

“The provisions of the proposed BBL are deliberately made to deviate from the Constitution in order to allow the MILF armed groups to achieve independence and sovereignty in a Bangsamoro state,” says in the 34-page complaint.

“The acts of the Respondents, in executing the Framework Agreement and in proposing the BBL, also effectively aided the MILF armed forces to successfully assert their existence as a separate and independent state. Therefore, the Respondents must be held liable for the crime of treason,” the complainants said.

“By enabling the MILF to continue to exist and develop as a belligerent armed force, all the Respondents in effect commit or propose to commit treason.”

Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process responded by saying “we will follow the legal process and file counter-affidavits as soon as we are formally notified.”
