PAF C-130 trip to Pagasa Island not challenged

Armed Forces of the Philippines chief-of-staff Gen. Gregorio Pio Catapang with members of the press were able to land, 11 am, and depart, 2 pm, from Pagasa Island safely via Philippine Air Force Lockheed C-130 “Hercules” cargo plane today, May 11. The cargo plane arrived at the said island in West Philippine Sea unchallenged.

“We just landed safely without being challenged and I congratulate the pilot because the runway is very short so we’re always at the tip of the runway when we’re about to land or stop,” General Catapang said.

“I congratulate the pilot who is very good in landing, it’s quite a short runway,” the top military official said. Aside from being short, the runway in Pagasa is old and badly needs a repair.

Catapang visited Pagasa Island upon the invitation of Kalayaan town Mayor Eugenio Bito-onon. The visit was also part of General Catapang’s farewell call, he is set to retire this coming July.

His visit also aims to determine how the military can help in developing the island group in West Philippine Sea.
