China already established a ‘military security area’ in West Philippine Sea

China is operating in West Philippine Sea as if it has established and Air Defense Identification Zone. “They are acting as if they already have an ADIZ there,” Department of National Defense spokesperson Peter Paul Galvez said.

Incidents of Chinese government challenging Philippine patrol planes flying over the Kalayaan Island Group is becoming frequent.

Armed Forces of the Philippines-Western Command commander Vice Admiral Alexander Lopez said, during the senate hearing yesterday, last week “as we were conducting our routine maritime air patrols and flying in international airspace, our Air Force hover aircraft was challenged over the radio.”

“The Chinese conveyed that our own planes were on their military security area,” the military official told senators April 7.

Vice Admiral Lopez added that latest incident was in April 6. “The latest one was yesterday when we again conducted our routine maritime patrol.”
