After learning that convicted drug trafficker Mary Jane Veloso’s Filipino recruiter surrendered, Indonesia President Joko Widodo called for an emergency Cabinet meeting. “Radio DZBB said Widodo called the meeting to discuss the case of Veloso hours before her execution,” Inquirer.net reports.
However, Indonesia’s Attorney General H.M. Prasetyo said executions of nine drug traffickers will push though. “I will not publish the execution time to avoid unwanted matters. The executions will be conducted this week,” he said.
Rumor reports say that executions will happen later at midnight.
President Aquino had a chance of meeting Widodo at the sidelines of ASEAN Summit yesterday in Malaysia. “We presented to Indonesia the opportunity also that she’s cooperating, we might be able to also uncover this drug syndicate that was behind her predicament,” Aquino told reporters in Malaysia. ”
“She does present an opportunity right now to be able to uncover all the participants and start the process of bringing them to the bars of justice. But without her, that becomes very difficult to cut an impossible proposition,” Aquino added.
Veloso’s recruiter who allegedly tricked her to bring 2.6 kilos of heroin surrendered to Nueva Ecija Provincial Office on Tuesday. Kristina Sergio whose real name is Christine Pasadilla and her live-in partner Julius Lacanilao submitted their selves to the authorities for they were afraid that Veloso’s family might take revenge.
