US Military to gain access in AFP naval, air bases in Pampanga, Palawan, Cebu, Zambales

United States Military will be given access to at least eight agreed locations in Philippines under the Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement. US will be able to build structures and buildings in agreed locations but Philippines will have the ownership.

According to Armed Forces of the Philippines, US Armed Forces may be given access to naval and air bases in Pampanga, Palawan, Cebu, Zambales. Among the planned locations are Basa Air Base in Pampanga, Antonio Bautista Air Base in Palawan, Benito Ebuen Air Base in Cebu, Naval Station San Miguel in Zambales, Naval Station Carlito Cunanan in Palawan, Naval Base Rafael Ramos in Cebu, Fort Magsaysay in Nueva Ecija and Crow Valley in Tarlac.

However, Agreed Locations under EDCA are yet to be formalized pending the decision of Supreme Court regarding the constitutionality of the said agreement on enhanced defense cooperation.

“If we formalize and they start putting up structures and it’s not constitutional, they will have to destroy those structures. Equipment will have to be brought back to their country,” AFP Chief-of-Staff General Gregorio Catapang told ABS-CBN News.

US Defense Department is planning to move its most advanced warfare systems in Asia-Pacific as part of rebalance in this region.
