China’s use of water cannon provocative – US State Department

“The use of water cannons against Philippine civilian vessels that have a longstanding practice of fishing in these waters at Scarborough Reef or in other disputed areas of the South China Sea would be a provocative act,” US State Department acting spokesperson Marie Harf said in a press briefing.

“It would represent a step backward in finding a diplomatic resolution to the dispute,” the spokesperson added.

“The Philippine Coast Guard has verified and confirmed the reported incident involving fishermen in Bajo de Masinloc,” said Presidential Communications Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. said on April 20.
