President Aquino does not see the need to convene the National Security Council at this point of time saying the cabinet security cluster discusses West Philippine Sea. “In the President’s view, not at this time,” Deputy Presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte said as quoted by GMA News Online.
“I am not aware of any discussions regarding convening the NSC at this time to take up the West Philippine Sea dispute,” Valte said. “The security cluster discusses the WPS as a regular item in their agenda as warranted, with the relevant departments present.”
However, for Senator Chiz Escudero the best time to convene the National Security Council is now. “It might indeed be best to convene the NSC in order to bring everybody in the loop given that this is an issue facing our country and people regardless of political affiliation.”
