Mayor in Zamboanga Sibugay abducted

A town mayor in Zamboanga Sibugay was abducted by a still unidentified lawless group Monday night, April 6. Reports said that Naga, Zamboanga Zibugay Mayor Gemma Adana was abducted from her home around 9 pm.

Western Mindanao Command spokesperson Captain Rowena Muyuela said that 17th Special Forces Company and the Naval Special Operations Unit was already deployed to help the police force to pursue the abductors and recover Mayor Adana. “We have yet to determine the abductors’ identities or group affiliation.”

“Our police are exerting all efforts to determine the whereabouts of the mayor and rescue her safely in coordination with other law enforcement authorities and the military,” Interior Secretary Mar Roxas said in a statement Tuesday, April 7.

“She was with her friends when the suspects armed with short firearms barged in and forcibly toook the mayor,” the Secretary said. “The group sped off towards the sea onboard two motorized bancas.”
