Marines killed two Abu Sayyaf terrorists in Sulu

During a Thursday encounter with Abu Sayyaf terrorist group, Marine troopers from 2nd Marine Battalion Landing Team (MBLT-2) killed two bandits and recovered two high powered firearms. Gun battle started at around 4 pm, April 2 at Sitio Poncho Kan Sahiron, Barangay Danag, Patikul, Sulu, Western Mindanao Command information officer Captain Maria Rowena Muyuela said.

The military official said the Marines were on a law enforcement operations when they encountered the terrorist sub-group with approximately 80 bandits led by a certain Hairulah Asbang.

It is believed that a number of wounded bandits were dragged by their fellow bandits, while two dead bandits were recovered in the clash site and turned over to village officials for proper action.

Joint Task Group Sulu public affairs officer Captain Antonio Bulao said more troopers from the said Marine team were deployed for reinforcement, while Scout Rangers, Special Forces, the 32nd and 35th Infantry Battalions were deployed as blocking force for the fleeing bandits.

Military forces together with Philippine National Police and local government units conduct continued pursuit operation against the said terrorist group.
