Philippine government: Malaysia pays rent for Sabah

The Philippine government is still fighting for Sabah and has no plan of abandoning the claim. “We have historical records and titles to prove our claim to Sabah. And we are still pursuing this claim,” Department of Foreign Affairs spokesman Charles Jose said in a press briefing as quoted by Philstar.com.

The statement of Jose was in response to Malaysian Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Anifah Aman’s latest words that Philippines has no claim over Sabah. Aman made the statement after a news report circulated that Philippines offered to downgrade Sabah claim.

Philippines has no plan to summon Malaysian Ambassador to Philippines Dato’ Mohd Zamri bin Mohd Kassim. “We do not have any plans to do that,” Jose noted.

“While they dismiss our claim but at the same time they are paying rent,” the foreign affairs department spokesman said. However, Malaysia claims that the RM5,300 they are paying yearly is a cede money and not for rent.
