The Armed Forces of the Philippines will continue the momentum it gained against lawless Moro rebels. “We have gained the momentum in this fight against lawlessness and we will never abandon our constitutional mandate to protect the people from bandits, criminals and terrorists,” AFP Public Affairs Office said in a press statement.
“The security forces will continue to conduct focused military operations against the armed threats like the BIFF and the terrorists that they have coddled in their communities,” the military said.
“As of today (March 21), we have accounted 139 killed, 53 wounded and 12 arrested/apprehended BIFF members,” says in the statement. While 6 soldiers were killed and 31 were wounded.
On the request of education sector in Maguindanao for a 3-day suspension of law enforcement operations to facilitate the graduation of elementary and high-school students in affected areas, the military is willing to facilitate graduation rites in affected areas including Shariff Aguak, Pagatin (Datu Saudi), Mamasapano and Salibo (Shariff Saydona). The AFP is considering the proposal to identify a safe area where joint graduation rites could be conducted.
“We are delighted to see them finish school and receive their diplomas and recognition. We understand the plight of the people who have fled to evacuation centers, especially the women, children and old people.”
