Armed Forces of the Philippines recommends dismantling of Moro Islamic Liberation Front 103rd Base Command

Armed Forces of the Philippines is urging the Moro Islamic Liberation Front to dismantle its 103rd Base Command in Iligan City. This is after a member of Iligan City Council and Higaonon chieftain lodged a complaint that MILF under Abdul Sango Amoran of the 305th Guerilla Unit recruited 85 Higaonon tribesmen and Maranaws from Bukidnon May 16 to 31 last year.

“The action initiated by MILF may be considered provocative acts under the implementing operational guidelines of the GPH-MILF agreement on the General Cessation of Hostilities as they endanger the safety and security of the people and disturbed the tranquility of the community particularly the Higanonon tribe,” Philippine Army 2nd Mechanized Infantry Brigade commander Colonel Gilbert Gapay told Sun.Star Cagayan de Oro in an exclusive interview.

Colonel Gapay recommended the dismantling of the said MILF camp to Government of the Philippines-Coordinating Committee on the Cessation of Hostilities (GPH-CCCH).

A Joint Site Verification Mission – composed of Joint GPH-MILF CCCH and Ad Hoc Joint Action Group (AHJAG), International Monitoring Team, Provincial Local Monitoring Team, Joint Ceasefire Monitoring Post and representatives from local government units, Elders and non-government organization Non-violent Peace Force – will act on the said protest.

“Based on testimonies, each applicant was required to pay P800 to P1,000 and was considered a graduate even without training,” Colonel Gapay said.
